Episode seven of Reflector focusses on three interlinked SEF projects that developed over a number of years and settings: Energy Emergency Repair Kit (EERK), Paromancy, and Notes from the Energetic Quietus. These projects evoke a conversation about activist, analytical, and even ironic ways of thinking about how we approach energy transition. Paromancy and Notes from the Energetic Quietus are collaborative exhibition projects presented in the SEF gallery show entitled Prototypes for Possible Worlds in 2019. With their multi-media components involving video, sound and immersive sculpture, they laid the sometimes strange groundwork for the absurd qualities of the Energy Emergency Repair Kit, with its cassette tapes overgrown with mycelium. Your hosts talk with project creators Jesse Beier (Concordia University), artist and independent scholar Tsema Igharas, professor Mark Simpson (University of Alberta), professor Joan Greer (University of Alberta) and artist Tegan Moore. As always, use the project links above to our interactive resources to enjoy a visual and auditory encounter with the FluxKit as you listen.
