Rezvaneh Erfani

PhD Candidate, Sociology, University of Alberta

Rezvaneh Erfani is a SSHRC Canada Vanier Scholar, Killam Scholar and a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology, University of Alberta. Her doctorate research focuses on environmentalism and environmental activism in the Middle East and its relation to democracy with special attention to gender, identity, and citizenship. In her specialization examination, she focused on ecofeminism, colonization and the body. The title of Rezvaneh’s University of Alberta Sociology and Political Science MA thesis was “Postcolonial Critique of Environmental Justice: A Discourse Analysis of United Nations Documents on Post- Invasion Iraq and Afghanistan.” She has also completed another MA in Social Communications at the University of Tehran, Iran, where she focused on environmental communication in Iran and conducted the study: “Rhetorical Analysis of Documentaries on the Lake Urmia Environmental Crisis.”
