EXHIBITION OPENING: A Tragedy of The Commons
March 7 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Please join us for the opening of A Tragedy of
the Commons. The conceptual catalyst for this
work is the research of Nobel Laureate Elinor
Ostrom, specifically her design principles for
the sustainable management of common-pool
resources. In collaboration with Professor Steven
Hoffman, who distilled Ostrom’s work into eight
poetic yet provocative points, and Professor
Susan Colberg, who provided typographic
expertise, Caulfield developed a series of large-
scale linocut, inkjet, and silkscreen prints. These
are paired with sculptures made from reclaimed
wood, creating a physical dialogue between the
permanence of the printed word and the material
history of our environment.
The images on display were initially developed
for the artist book Planet for Sale as part of
Speculative Energy Future’s Flux Kit for Energy
Transition, which will also be on view for the
opening.
